About this deal

What a fun conclusion to this series! I’m actually somewhat sad that it’s over; however, it all turned out well, so there’s no complaints with that. My girls haven’t reached the upper floors yet. Men from this floor and the one below spill into the hallway. It doesn’t take them long to spot their captain.

She is strong, intelligent and extremely loyal to her own crew. Also we see how the siren part of her gets stronger and more developed. The only reasons I'm not giving this 5 stars is because I missed some world building (which I guess is due to most of the story taking place on a ship), because I felt like some parts of the end were a little rushed and also because their age bothered me a lot in the beginning. I get that it's young adult, but two of the most feared ships are not only captained by young people, but the whole crew consists of people under the age of 20? Their age also made some of the content a little cringe-worthy. There are several twists and turns to the story! You think it's just about Alosa finding a map piece for her father? Nope! I can't say more because of spoilers, but we learn key things about Alosa, and another pirate lord, and Riden and Draxen, as the story progresses. When Vordan exposes a secret her father has kept for years, Alosa and her crew find themselves in a deadly race with the feared Pirate King. Despite the danger, Alosa knows they will recover the treasure first . . . after all, she is the daughter of the Siren Queen. Read the first chapter here or listen to the first chapter audio here while you put together a puzzle of the cover!

Starting with the characters! ✨ for me the characters in this series are decent, but not amazing. Alosa really began to annoy me in this one- she can be so stubborn and arrogant at times which really annoyed me 🙄 and some of the decisions she made were definitely *questionable*. But she did have some good moments I guess. As much as I don't love alosa tho, I still love riden! 💗 he's so hot 😩😩 and I also feel like he had a ton of growth in this book, which was awesome 💕 The little boy,” I say, just as Vordan reaches underneath his pillow. For the dagger I’ve already removed. “Time to go, Sorinda.”

What happened in Daughter of the Pirate King?

Here, I wait, watching my breath fog out in front of me in the slim moonlight. Though I could use the heat, I don’t dare risk the sound of my hands rubbing together. There is nothing for me to do now except to hold perfectly still. A rope already hangs down from the roof. Sorinda has beaten me here. I hoist myself up floor after floor, avoiding the windows, until my boots steady on the stone tiles of the roof. Sorinda is just putting her sword away, four of Vordan’s men dead at her feet. There is nothing she excels at more than killing. We will negotiate the terms of my surrender. First I will have your word that my crew will be freed and unharmed.”

This is no book for people who love absolut perfect world building, detailed characters or beautiful different writing. Me : yeah, wait till you hear what I think and you probably want to stay away from this book. *snorts* THE ROMANCE was very standard YA but I still really enjoyed it! Alosa and Riden had nonstop banter, which was really entertaining to read and I could definitely feel the chemistry between them. The romance so far has been pretty PG13 but I was still really invested in itThat said, I liked Alosa fine 😂 Yeah, the constant reminders of how perfect she was got a bit annoying, but she had sympathy. I think being told about the endurance tests her father put her through was a really good way of justifying just how much she could do and handle, and I like that she wasn't this senseless killing machine. She had compassion, she was kind when the situation allowed it, she cared. You understood her anger, but it was also easy to understand her other decisions and thought processes as well. As for the romance... Let's just say that the funny/flirty banter and sexual tension between Alosa and Riden disappeared in this book. Instead, they just spent their time trying to figure out each other's feelings and not admitting how they were in love with each other and I am sad to say that it was annoying at times. I LOVE angst and drama, but the way it was developed in this book felt more like a teenage romantic drama than a complex angsty romantic drama. Unfortunately, we did not have a pirate at the helm (hehehe). We had Alosa. And therefore our roster of activities looked a lot more like this: complimenting self, gazing lustily, telling not showing, thinking about the abstract concept of coming up with a plan but deciding not to, cutting scenes right when they get interesting, complimenting self more, and more, and more. And Riden. A definite swoon worthy love interest. I loved the parts that had both Alosa and Riden together and it gave me so many warm feelings... *sighs* A part of me felt like a second book was not needed after reading the first book, but I still really enjoyed this book. I think it was somewhat needed because we did learn a lot about Alosa and other characters in the book.

Finally, an owl hoot comes. Then another. And another. I wait until I hear all seven of them—signaling that each crossing street and guarded rooftop has been cleared. Don’t get killed, I say again in my head. Mandsy is one of only three I trust on this ship. She’s a good gal, very bright, optimistic—and a good voice of reason, which I desperately needed during our voyage. She volunteered to come, along with two other girls from my real crew. I shouldn’t have allowed them to join me, but I needed their help keeping these worthless men in line. Life these last few weeks would have been so much easier if I could have had my crew on this venture. But my powers are running out. We need to get out of here. I glance around the room, noting the unlit lanterns hanging all along the walls, contemplating the oil resting inside.I am me because I choose to be me. I am what I want. Some people say you have to find yourself. Not I. I believe we create ourselves to be what we want. Any aspect of ourselves that we do not like can be altered if we make an effort.” ALOSA WAS STILL a strong lead and I really liked her character. She was so ruthless and cutthroat - I loved it! But I really wish she wouldn't have been entirely reliant on Riden to use her abilities Riden and Alosa's relationship was nothing if not beautiful. I love that it wasn't love at first sight, but more of a slow burning, hate-turned-love passion that took FOREVER to become something more, but once they finally do admit their true feelings, my god! I was dying inside from the wait! I felt my heart bursting from my chest with every interaction between the two of them, and I couldn't handle the slowness of their attraction at some points. I like that through even this, Alosa never lets her guard down as the Captain of her ship, and Riden respects her for it, if not making her more attractive to him in the process. Her fearless leadership is prevalent to all other emotions, and he can't get enough. And neither could I! This was such a sweet love story to add to the rugged pirate story. I fell in love right with the characters.
