This poem accompanies the Medicine Spoon Memorial embroidery to remember Margaret Butter, a victim of the Scottish Witch Trials of 1661. I wasn't overly keen on this to be honest but it picked up reasonably in the last quarter, hence three stars.

The wood ear adds a little woody flavor and the witch’s butter just seems to take on the other flavors of the chicken broth and chili oil. Some believe it today; still others, the "Mad Mob," are ever-ready to be whipped into potent fury over an "extraordinary popular delusion" (to quote the author Mackay), and are also equally eager to burn whatever heretic, outsider or "witch" they decide, in their madness, is a threat to them and their so-invigorating way of life. We get to meet Holly and Luce’s boyfriend interests in this one, Ollie the librarian and Will the landscaper in a dinner set up by the mothers. The magic portion was lighthearted and doesn't go dark and twisty like some other mysteries I've read. She told her son Alexander Banks and his wife Marion never to visit the edge of the village, never to speak out against the kirk or their elders.Eventually, however, forcing her to slow down, he finally understood what she was trying to tell him. She also does therapy for a ghost named John, trying to figure out why he's still here so maybe he can move on. The town where I live now, Bangor, has a full Viking longship burial site and the Abby here was raided on a number of occasions. I look forward to traveling to Harlot Bay in the future and seeing what crazy schemes and ideas Harlow’s family is up to next.

Between dealing with sleazy real estate developers intent on getting their hands on Torrent Mansion, a teenage Slip Witch who just might be the Queen of Sarcasm, a talking magical cat who smells like lavender, and an AWOL potential future boyfriend, Harlow would love nothing more than a peaceful Summer.

When Harlow stumbles across the dead body of one of the contestants, drained of its blood by magical means, she takes it upon herself to try and figure out who the murderer is and why they took the blood. Inspired by friends who were taking part in the Medicine Spoon Memorial textile project to commemorate those women who were persecuted as witches, I applied and was sent a spoon to embroider and the name of a woman, Margaret Butter.
