This dive into body horror is something Ito excels at, but he flexes his talent best in the final transformation when the students' teacher comes to class half-transformed. At first, it seems as though the men who encounter Tomie are drawn in by her beauty, though there is something supernatural about her influence as it leads men to kill her.

Ito has been inspired by horror since childhood, with his first manga being written about a protagonist with an eye in the middle of his hand, attacking him; this was heavily influenced by Shigeru Mizuki's Kappa no Sanpei. His death has become one of Ito's most haunting images as he's found in a large tub, his body contorted into a spiral. It's the first time the characters truly encounter what's going on, and the first death among them perfectly sets up the horror to come.

Still, if you are not opposed to body horror and are interested in the aforementioned themes I highly recommend Junji Ito’s work. After graduating from high school, he entered a dental technician’s school and got a job, but he posted it with the intention of having Mr. Original art produced for "Mysterious Summit 2022"「怪奇サミット2022 伊藤潤二編」and also featured on several different pieces of merchandise. Ito found anatomical interest in the books for the medical students, which he used to study muscles.
