The opening is a brilliant mix of sweet citrus and lavender, which then subsides to make way for a thyme tea drydown. It makes me think of sifting through dusty black-and-white wedding photos of a pretty, young couple, whom you are distantly related to, and never met. This purely addictive combination is fresh, warm and persistent, halfway between the worlds of perfumery and aromatherapy.

Sweet yet still very citrus forward with a bright floral note that I can only attribute to the lavender note. the main problem with this scent is duration and projection but if you go heavy with the sprayer you get a blast of lemon and musky woods, this scent was Winston Churchill signature scent. Blenheim Bouquet has an herbal note they are not listing, that blends with the citrus, giving the citrus a bitter green accord.This still has an elegance about it, Penhaligon's just pulls it off and Blenheim Bouquet has a clean feel but it's not the best offering from them although inoffensive and wearable. Anyway, you read correctly that this was one of dear old Winston Churchill's favourite perfumes, and it is actually named after the stately home of his birth. This has been much imitated, and is a classic pretty fougére with lots of sweet Amalfi lemon on top, and a piney-musky finish. He has a warmer type of body scent which mixed with the smoky woods and citrus altogether smells like home to me.

There does seem to be something like a touch of tonka/benzoin/whatever softening this up every so slightly, though it's not listed. That's not necessarily a good thing though - history can also spell 'dated' (and I've never looked at Churchill as a man I want to smell like in any event). Yet, Blenheim remains (for now), pine needle-y, peppery, fresh, yet musky enough to be a bit fleshy. It has a great musky dry-down that's warm and creamy, with some of the peppery, slightly sweet pine lingering. Finally, the packaging is a reflection of the bottle itself with a fleur-de-lys motif and golden stripes. The clear, crisp lemon note is very straight forward and blends with the lavender in a sheer and airy way. Nose proposes an olfactive diagnosis where 5 perfumes will be proposed among a list of 500 curated ones.
